This post could also be called “Chicken Soup For the Wallet” Ha! I crack myself up….nevermind.
How much do you spend per person for your meals at home? For this meal, I spent roughly $.42 perserving!
There are a few things that have to be said about frugal cooking: Cooking with fresh, whole ingredients is tastier, and almost always cheaper than choosing prepared food, including pre-cut meat and canned beans and broth. Frugal cooking sometimes can take more time or effort, but it is always worth it!
Many of my recipes are original, so they may not have exact measurements. Just go with your gut! This recipe may seem like a little work, but I guarantee you will NEVER want to eat canned Chicken Soup again! It also freezes well, so you can make a lot at a time.
Sarah, I love this idea. I am finding that I really don’t know how to be frugal when it comes to cooking. I am glad you are going to share. I joined the Grocery Game (using you as a referral) and have liked it so far but haven’t seen huge savings. I think I need to give it a few more weeks. I have only shopped twice. I know I need to gather more coupons 🙂 Thanks for the great tidbits.
I also make chicken soup this way, but I don’t use the entire chicken. I serve chicken for dinner from a whole large roasted chicken, and then make soup with the carcass/leftovers.
I make chicken soup the same way, too. Frugal minds think alike! Thanks for the hat-tip by the way…
I really like this idea! I make my chicken noodle soup very similar to the way you do. I make a very large batch and we eat it for a couple of meals. Then I make a new meal out of it by taking the leftover soup and thicken it just a little with cornstarch and water to make it into a gravy and then serve it over mashed potatoes. My kids actually like this better than the soup!
Thanks for this, I looooove scratch chicken noodle but never was sure how to go about it. I will definitely be trying this!
Thanks Sarah I have a bad cold and decided to make this from scratch and it worked.
